4-7-20 THOUGHTS
I find my thoughts turning to the event of the
DEATH-BURIAL- & RESURRECTION of our Lord.
Acts 12:4 And when he had apprehended him, he put [him] in prison, and
delivered [him] to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after
Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Only the KJV has Easter. The NASB, ESV, NIV and even the NKJV have
passover.
Following new testament instructions and patterns, we remember this precious
new passover each Sunday as the Lord’s supper... the communion. We can
pinpoint this time of the year.
For the remainder of the week, I’d like to point our thoughts to the
CROSS... TO JESUS, the object of the cross... And to his RESURRECTION,
THE POWER OF THE CROSS!
A “NEW AND LIVING WAY”
Heb 10:1-24 Especially 19-20 What is the veil now? “Having
therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil,
that is to say, his flesh;”
The above is cross and resurrection terminology.
Barnes quotes Doddridge... "ever living way... that the
allusion is to the fact that under the old dispensation the blood was to be
offered as soon, as it was shed, and that it could not be offered when it was cold
and coagulated. The way by Christ was, however, always open. His blood was, as
it were, always warm, and as if it had been recently shed. This interpretation
seems to derive some support from the word which is rendered "new."
[See below]. The word living, also, has often the sense of perennial, or
perpetual, as when applied to a fountain always running, in opposition to a
pool that dries up, See Barnes "John 4:10", and the new way to heaven
may be called living in all these respects. It is a way that conducts to life.
It is ever-living—as if the blood which was shed always retained the freshness
of that which is flowing from the vein. And it is perpetual and constant—- like
a fountain that always flows— for it is by a sacrifice whose power is perpetual
and unchanging.”
“The word which is here rendered new —prosfaton—occurs nowhere else in the New
Testament. It properly means slain, or killed thereto; i.e. newly
killed, just dead; and then fresh, recent.”
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of
God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have
asked of him,
and he would have given thee living water.
Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of
the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and
released us from our sins by His blood —
Rom 6:11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but
alive to God in Christ Jesus.
My Prayer:
Eternal God and Father, draw us to yourself as we prepare our minds to remember
the greatest event in history. Thank you for loving us and sending your
Son to die... and then TO LIVE!
Thank you dear God for a new and living way. In the name of Jesus
Amen
